For Mentees - How to apply

In order to be eligible for the PhD mentor programme you need to:

  • be a PhD student at the University of Copenhagen and within The Faculty of Humanities, The Faculty of Law or the Faculty of Social Sciences with a scheduled PhD defense after October 2017
  • write a motivated application and upload it along with your CV.

When matching, we take a lot of factors into account such as research areas, mentor's job, your motivation for applying and what you hope to achieve through the mentoring process. We do this to make sure that the match makes good sense, but it also means that you won’t necessarily get a mentor from exactly your research area.

How to write an application for a mentor

Write a one page presentation of yourself covering your profile both as a professional and as a person.

You might want to answer questions such as: What is your research field? And your background? Why do you want to become a mentee? What are your expectations of your mentor? In which areas do you need most sparring (e.g. career paths in the industry, generalist/specialist/scientist)? What are your competencies and skills? Are you looking for information about career possibilities as an international PhD in Denmark, general advice, cover letters/CV, innovation & entrepreneurship etc.

Please do not refer to any specific mentor in your application and try to focus the application on the areas of potential personal development rather than on a very detailed explanation of your research.

For further information, please contact the relevant PhD School at either The Faculty of Humanities, The Faculty of Law or the Faculty of Social Sciences
